The Prayer of Jabez:

The prayer of Jabez shows us a powerful way we can approach God with our requests. It is not a formulaic prayer to earn anything from God or to twist God’s hand, rather, Jabez’s prayer inspires and challenges us how to call upon God to help accomplish the fulfillment of His promises in our lives.

1 Chronicles 4:10

“Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh that You would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.”

MAY: YOUR HAND BE WITH ME!

4.  The desire of Jabez was for God to be in every moment of his day. He understood the power of God’s hand to protect and to lead in the right direction. Blessings will become curses if it is not God’s hand providing and guiding. When you pray, request more than blessings and provision but that God’s hand would lead you through any circumstances and trials that may come your way. THAT is the greatest blessing.

How often do we try and do life our own way. Whether it be our 5 year plans or day to day goals, it is likely that we as Christians, would fall into the trap of being the author of our own life. This is dangerous grounds, brothers and sisters. We need not forget the power and wisdom that comes from God’s hand leading and directing us.

There is no perfect, trouble-free life. Without God’s hand, you may find yourselves trudging along your earthly walk carrying heavy burdens and juggling insurmountable responsibilities with your human hands. How much freer would we be if we let God take the reins? How much securer would we be if the Author of all life were to be the true Author of our personal life? Jabez knew that without God, his life would not be able to accomplish anything. The same is true for us. We need God’s hand.

Are there areas in your life that you need to surrender over to God? Do not let the fleshly part of your humanity allow you to hold on to control of your life. We were not created to live life to the full without God. More than anything we can do in our own strength, we need the power of God in our lives and His Holy Spirit leading each step that we take.

As we pray, ask the Holy Spirit to show you areas in your life that you need to yield to God. Be sensitive to His voice and be open to any word, instruction, redirection, encouragement that the Lord may speak over you today.

Personal Prayer: Your Hand Be with Me

Thank You that you have set us free and that you are bigger than anything we face in this life. We lay our burdens before You, every single one, for we know they’re much safer in Your hands than our own. God, may Your hand guide me as I walk with You each step of the way. Help me to trust in Your righteous right hand that strengthens and upholds me. Father God, lead me into the territory that you would have me claim for Your righteousness. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN.
